Contents page sketches

These some flat plans of some of my ideas for my contents page, I got the ideas for various different magazines. The flat plan that i like the most is the first one, it looks professional and quirky at the same time which i want to portray in my magazine. There will be 3/4 images on the contents which give an idea of the page number, my logo will be near the top of the page rather the whole magazines name, a logo is what I've discovered most magazines use in all their pages.

More contents inspirations

This contents page uses on image rather that lots of different images, this makes an impact if the main image looks very professional and makes a bold statement this Mojo contents page does that very well. The image is in black and white which makes it seem vintage but this is juxtaposed by the model in the frame which has a modern look and shes giving direct mode of address which makes the image seem more intriguing and mysterious. The text layout is also unconventional because its very close together and there is minimal text this means readers will concentrate more on the image.

Q magazines contents page has alot of images that lead audiences to the page numbers in the magazine i like this approach because images interest readers it gives them something to look at rather than too much text which can be distracting. I may incorporate this into my contents page and have a lot of images and  minimal text because my target audience would appropriate this more.

I have changed my theme color on my front cover to more vibrant colors to attract my target audience because the background in my main image has a dark background so my front cover according to feedback need brighter colors to juxtapose this.

I also added more features to my final magazine like a strap line at the bottom of the page to make it more conventional and attract my target user to read on the magazine. I also changed my headlines font to a more edgy font to suite my main headline, its more bold and eye catching than the previous font which was thin. My main headline has a shadow like effect this makes the main headline more distinctive, i took the inspiration for this from clash they use this effect in nearly all of there magazine issues.

My final front cover attracts my target audience because the main image is quirky and unique this conveys my target user demographics they dress like that in vintage clothing which the paper effect of the image conveys. The tittle of my magazine could also attract them because "Kazuko" means harmony and melody in Japanese, and my target user is interested in the Japanese culture.

DEVELOPMENTS

I changed the font of the headlines because the feedback that i got shows that it was too thin to see clearly and a more bolder font would look professional and suite my genre. So i changed it to a bold and edgy font to suite my main headline this made my front cover more eye catching.

Based on the feedback that i got i made my box out in my masthead more brighter by making the red more vibrant and i have included a strip at the bottom of the front cover to make it more mainstream. My strip color is a pinkish colour and the arrows a bright green color, this is vibrant colurs that will add more attraction to my  front cover. The feedback that i recived from my target users says that my front cover housestyle looked too common and dull so i will change colors in my housestyle to address this problem.

Wednesday 21 January 2015

My front cover headlines are the names of  indie pop artists this is a conventional thing that I've seen on many front covers. the names of the artists are in a bigger font than the subtitles that are in a smaller font. The reason for this is because i want consumers to see their favourite artists names first they will most likely buy the magazine to read about them.

I have minimal text on my front cover because my front cover image already makes a big and bold statement so having a lot of text would make the the magazine look too busy and not professional.
The barcode was on the bottom at first then i tried it on the side this made the magazine look more arty.

front cover developments

I've changed my front cover image to a ripped collage of my male model and and my female one. I placed my image of my female model on top becuase its more vibrant and contrasts with the image of my male model. The back image has a dark background so that the front cover wouldnt have too much contrasting colours which may make it look tacky also the dark background makes it easier for readers to read the haedlines clearly.

My main headline is "radiant" this is in white with a red shadow so  it can stand out and look like a bold statement. I got the inspiration for this from exiting indie pop/rock magazines such as clash magazine:

My masthead is a bold font and the font is also bold and white, this is the convention on most indie pop magazine and it also makes the magazine look more professional. Also i deiced to have my tittle to the left side rather than the middle because i want it to look different compared to most indie pop magazines, it also allows me to have a plug in my masthead to lead my readers into buying the magazine. The plug on my masthead is in a red circle to fit my theme colors which are black, white and red, the font is in capital letters and its quite big compared to other plugs that i have seen on other magazines. My plug is eye catching because of the color of the circle which is red this color makes my consumer more alert however i didn't want the red to be too bright because it would look odd on the front cover so i lowered the opacity so it could blend in with magazine but still look eye catching.
